Changes to the calendar and late commitment to race dates really hurt the credibility of our sport and make us appear excessively unprofessional in the eyes of our fans, the press, and it is detrimental to our athletes. I like the idea of scheduling meets, designating race times, and winning approval from administrator prior to the first day of the practice. Coaches could post their home events on athletic.net and once they were approved by administrators, they could be submitted to idahoxc.com for posting on the master calendar. Brett could get a small compensation from the District/state for building the calendar. The entire season for any team could be available to all parents and fans, many who take time off of work or travel significant distances to see races. After the 1st day of practice, changes to the calendar could result in real consequences for the violating school. We don't need this to be complicated. Posting your teams event could serve as the proposing of a contract. If a school then registers for a given meet, that could be the acceptance of the terms of the contract. I think there is a real need to tighten up our relaxed attitude toward meet scheduling and times. Those meets with a strong reputation, (think Clardinal Classic) are set in stone 6 months out. In parts of the country where cross country is an old and respected tradition, schedules are set many months out.

I disagree....Most of the meets in Idaho...at least in the south east have already been set. In addition, creating a contract format could seriously hurt the potential of many teams to seek out the best competition.
As a coach I have seen how the contract format has led to incredibly high entry fees for wrestling teams in east Idaho: some tournament fees are more than our entire budget. Without contracts coaches are forced to provide quality meets for a reasonable price and coaches can create and adapt a meet schedule that allows his or her athletes to achieve the best possible results.
Personally, I think a more appropriate thing for the state to do is to certify the distance of the various courses ran in the state. Too many of the reported times are on courses of questionable distance.
Chris.
